Title: Yukon Breezes Author: Yanert, William Place: Purgatory, Alaska Publisher: Wm. Yanert Date: [1935] Description: [iv], 193, [1 blank], + 5 typed leaves at rear. 25 leaves with handcolored illustrations in the margins; 40 inserted hand-colored plates. Pages 127-130 and the upper portion of page 131 have been excised and the poem title drawn through on the index leaf, presumably by Yanert. 15.5x23.5 cm (6x9¼") original wrappers, string bound. First Edition. A manuscript label inside the front cover reads "For the sake of Auld Land Sine to my old friend The Commodore! Wm. Yanert." Inside the rear cover is a red inkstamp stating that this was mailed from inside the Arctic Circle at Fort Yukon, Alaska. With an additional 16 duplicate leaves of text, a few with illustrations, and 15 duplicate full page plates, not bound in. OCLC locates only 5 copies, with varying numbers of illustrations. No copies in auction records and one copy in the trade, that copy without illustrations. Also included is a 20 pp. typed biographical essay on Yanert by Ralph W. Newcomb. Also accompanied by a small souvenir volume title "Up the Yukon with Me." 20 leaves, a poem in printed facsimile script with 6 mounted photographs, 13 full-page colored illustrations (by Yanert?), plus a few smaller illustrations on text leaves. 7.5x12.5 cm (3x5"), metal ring binding. A story of a river voyage to the Arctic Circle and beyond onboard the ship The Yukon, piloted by Ralph Newcomb. Lot Amendments Condition: Wrappers worn, a bit of edge wear; very good.
