Moscow: I. N. Kushnerev, 1893. Detsvo [Childhood]. Vol. 1. 9th edition.With double portrait photogravure frontispiece. 367 pp., 8vo (270 x 180 mm). Gilt decorated green calf over green cloth. Condition: covers rubbed; some pages soiled, scattered foxing. Provenance: inscribed to the prominent Moscow physician Vladimir Andreevich Schurovsky on December 15, 1902; he was Tolstoy’s doctor in the Crimea that year. presentation copy to the novelist’s doctor. [With:] contemporary photograph of Tolstoy on horseback laid in. Althoug not adverse to autographing photographs, the author of War and Peace and Anna Karenina rarely inscribed his books. (2).
