This survey of the astronomy of India and the Orient by the noted French astronomer and historian of astronomy, Jean-Sylvain Bailly, is considered a supplement to his monumental four-volume history of astronomy which had been published between 1775 and 1782. -- Houzeau & Lancaster, I 482. DSB, I, pp. 400-401. Early inscription on half-title noting that Francois Carrard received the volume from the library of noted Swiss scholar Benjamin Carrard in October of 1792.
