Transportation.- Warwickshire Prison sentences.- Warwickshire Lent Assizes, from March 30, to April 6, 1822. Sentences of Prisoners, for Felonies and Misdemeanors..., 4pp., printed list of prisoners with corresponding offences and sentences, slightly soiled to first page and with short tears along folds, ink name of J. Price at head of p.1, generally in excellent condition, folio, Warwick, H. Sharpe, 1822. ⁂ Includes many individuals condemned to transportation for what now would be perceived as very minor cases of law-breaking, e.g. Joseph Purcell, age 20, "Charged with having stolen at Birmingham, on 24th January last, one hat and one coat, the property of Benjamin Archer...7 years Transportation." Lesser sentences include time in the House of Correction, hard labour, and whipping. One man, William Judd, was sentenced to execution for using forged and counterfeit £5 notes. The vast majority of offences took place in Birmingham.
