[14], 440; 432, 72; [8], 296, [10] pp. With 43 (of 56) engraved plates, including maps, views, depictions of coins and artifacts, ethnographic portraits, etc., many double-page or folding; some of the plates are by William Hogarth (folio) 35x21.5 cm (13¾x8½"), modern library buckram. Travels by the Frenchman through Europe, Asia and parts of Africa, with a notable side-trip into Lapland. The engravings and maps are of particular note, with rare views the peoples and architecture of the lands traversed. Ex-library, with old rubberstamps of the New York Historical Society to title pages and a few places within, recent labels to final page of text in each volume. Lot Amendments Condition: Some fairly minor foxing and a few staints to contents; sold of the fold-out plates with short splits at fold intersections, lacking 13 of the plates; good condition, sold as is, but with major portion of the captivating plates present.
