Two 19th-Century Chinese dyptich sundials, both in fruitwood, both signed on the reverse in black ink, one with a single inclining face, the other with two, the larger -- 15.3cm. (6in.) wide The smaller dial has a rectangular base, in one half of which is mounted the compass with surrounding scales. The inclining face has a calendar/Zodiac scale around a folding brass gnomon, and is supported by a brass arm to a series of grooves with further labelling. The larger dial is almost identical but with a second inclining face opposite the first, and more complex hour scales. (2)
