Two Annual Reports from the British Interplanetary Society Author: [Clarke, Arhur] Place: London Publisher: British Interplanetary Society Date: 1951-1952 Description: Two items: 1951. 17 pp. Illustrated with photographs from the 2nd International Astronautical Congress in London.Original wrappers. (Rubberstamp cate on cover) 1952. 63 pp. Illustrated with photographs from a Rocket Exhibition and the Society Christmas Card with a imaginative drawing of the first spaceship on the moon. Original wrappers (2 punch holes at spine, pages laid in loose, signature on cover) In his two Chairman’s Addresses, Arthur Clarke notes with regret the death of two of the Society’s distinguished members, novelists Olaf Stapledon and George Bernard Shaw. He also reports great pleasure addressing the American and Pacific Rocket Societies and the staff of the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory at Berkeley. Clarke gave speeches to the British Society on “Planets, Spaceships and Orbits” and “The Challenge of the Spaceship”, as well as Eric Burgess and J. B. S.Haldane (“Biological Problems of Space Flight”). Also included are technical articles on “Inter-Orbital Transfer of a Rocket”, “Cost and Availability of High-Energy Rocket Propellants” and “Sensory Conditions of the Weightless Condition”.
