TWO-FISTED TALES No. 18 [1st Issue] Author: Place: Publisher: Entertaining Comics Date: November-December, 1950 Description: Good/VG (3.0). Partial chip to mid-spine, 1/2" chip and 2" tear to back cover. Still, a nice, flat, clean book with sharp edges and corners. Off-white pages. Kurtzman cover. Art by Harvey Kurtzman Al Feldstein Wally Wood and Johnny Craig (each of whom scripted his own story - this may be the only EC comic with all stories scripted by the artists). First ish of Kurtzman's "He-Man Adventure book," which soon developed into a platform for the most challenging and realistic war comics of the era. "Two-Fisted Tales was one of the first really exciting things that I got involved in. This was my first title that I'd invented. The concept was that we were going to do blood-and-thunder tales and rip-roaring high adventure. What I was trying to do could best be summed up by recalling the old Captain Easy and Wash Tubbs adventure strips by Roy Crane. "My schtick was always authenticity, adventure stories that went back to some kind of authenticity. I think that's essentially what it was that I could get excited about and Bill couldn't. It had something to do with history and historical dates and places, and processes." -Harvey Kurtzman interview (by E.B. Boatner, John Benson and Jay Kinney, recorded June 30, 1979). PBA Grading Guarantee: Any individual comic book lot (not group lots) graded by PBA is guaranteed to match CGC grading. If the buyer chooses to have the comic CGC certified and that certification is lower than PBA’s, the lot may be returned for a full refund of the sales price (hammer price plus buyer’s premium). See terms and conditions for details. Consignments Accepted for PBA's Next Comic Book Auction. Golden Age, Silver Age, Pre-Code, Original Art, Interesting Ephemera Sought.
