Two folios from a Bustan, Persian manuscript on gold-sprinkled paper, each with 14ll. of elegant black nasta'liq in two columns, gold divisions between black rules, blue, green and gold margins between black rules, blue and white outer rules, the margins filled with diagonally written text and illuminated triangular panels, two gold and polychrome illuminated heading panels, Iran, 16th century - folio 28.5 x 18.4, text 20 x 10.8cm.; another folio similar possibly from the same manuscript; another folio , 10ll. black nasta'liq, green and gold margins, blue outer rule, further text diagonally in margin Iran, with colophon signed by Haidar b. Ibrahim al-Hasani and dated AH 992/1584-5 AD - folio 28 x 17.4cm., text 19 x 11.5cm.; 18 folios from a Khamseh , 20ll. black nasta'liq in four columns, occasional panels of diagonal text, gold margins between black rules, blue outer rule, heading in blue across two columns, three gold and polychrome illuminated heading panels, 14 illustrations (heavily retouched and overpainted), Iran, colphon dated 18 Dhu'l-Hijja AH 960/1552-3 , another folio possibly unrelated with colophon dated Muharram AH 956/1549-50 AD and signed by Mahmud bin .. - folio 27 x 17cm., text 18.8 x 10.7cm.; and 5 folios from a ?Turkish manuscript, with lines of very small, neat black naskh, sometimes in four columns, gold margins between black rules, divisions and headings in red, each folio with gold and polychrome illuminated heading, Ottoman, 17th century - folio 21 x 14.5cm., in stamped leather folder See colour plate 4 for one (27)
