The first album with 49 photographs, 47 of which are approx. 6½x9, 2 are approx. 7x4; the second album with 44 photographs, varying in size from 4x5½ to 7x9¼. Albums are 10x13, full calf ruled in gilt, all edges gilt. Nice selection of vintage photographs of Pacific islands and natives during the latter half of the 19th century. Ten of the larger photographs are of Hawaii, incuding two of Hula dancers in traditional dress, not the grass skirts for the tourists, also lava flows, poi eaters and a fancy hotel. The others are divided between Tahiti and Samoa, with a few natives of the Marquesas thrown in. Included are: Samoan Kava Ceremony; Vessels in Apia Harbor, Samoa; Samoan chiefs seated in a grass-thatched open-air hut; Samoans with club and spear; familys in front of their huts; dug-out canoes; Samoan men plaiting baskets; harbor at Papeete; Tahitian countryside; Point Venus Lighthouse; Marquesan man showing tatooing; and more. A number with captions of fairly recent vintage, in ink or pencil. Each with ownership signature on front pastedown of A.H. Otis, Yacht "Casco". Lot Amendments Condition: Second album with front hinge split through, both with some fading and wear to covers; photographs with fading, occasionally severe, some foxing mostly to mounts, 3 smaller photographs damaged; images good to very good.
