TWO SMALL CARVED LONGQUAN CELADON JARS AND COVERS MING DYNASTY (1368-1644) Each tapering ovoid jar is carved with a central foliate scroll band between a band of petal-lappets below and a smaller band of foliate scroll on the shoulder below a sawtooth band on the neck. The domed cover has similar foliate scroll, and below a flower head carved at the base of the bud handle. 6 5/8 in. (16 cm.) high Provenance Warren E. Cox (1897-1977) Collection, New York, no. 192 (according to labels). Chester D. Tripp (1883-1974) Collection, Chicago. The Art Institute of Chicago, accessioned in 1988.
