A group of ephemera relating to the costume balls organized by the Union des Artistes Russes. Paris: Union des Artistes Russes, 1923-1925. 2 printed programmes and 7 broadsides, various sizes and printed on variously coloured paper, all illustrated after designs by Larionov, Goncharova, Picasso and others. (Some light wear, programmes with light soiling.) Stapled, or folded as issued. Provenance : one broadside with the stamp of the Union des Artistes Russes. A group of rare ephemera, relating to the Grand Bal des Artistes Travesti-Transmental of February 1923, the Bal Banal of March 1924, the Bal Olympique of July 1924, and the Bal de la Grande Ourse of Mai 1925. The programme for the Bal Travesti-Transmental includes a Picasso lithograph finished in blue and yellow pastel. The whimsical events featured ballets choreographed by Larionov and the Ballets Suédois, with costumes and sets designed by Goncharova and Fernand Léger and scores of original contributions from the many participants representing the cream of Paris's avant-garde scene.
