Beschreibung:

Photo-album compiled by one of the organizers of the "Israeli Pavilion" in the international exhibition and fair "Conquest of the Desert", 1953. Twenty-eight large photographs (20.5X25.5 cm) portray the various halls in the "Israeli Pavilion" and a dozen more photographs, medium and small size (12X6 to 20X17 cm) depict the visit of David Ben-Gurion and other senior officials at the exhibition. Cuttings from the exhibition catalogue are mounted on the album's first leaves as well as a document from a press meeting with the executive committee of the Israeli pavilion; on the title page of the catalogue appear autographs of some 20 exhibition organizers, among them Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett, Director of the European Office Edwin Samuel, and others. "Conquest of the Desert" exhibition was held in Binyanei Ha'uma in Jerusalem on September 22 through October 14, 1953, and commemorated five years of the establishment of the State of Israel. This was a monumental project and was considered the first international fair ever held in Israel. For further information see "Conquest of the Desert" exhibition by Gideon Ofrat (in: The First Decade: Hegemony and Plurality, by Galia Bar Or and Gideon Ofrat, Ein Harod, 2008, pp.225-234), as well as in 'Conquest of the Desert' Exhibition, the First International Exhibition in Jerusalem, 1953" by Ophira Grawis Kowalsky and Yossie Katz (in: "Israel" 20, 2012, pp. 153-180).
