In this legal case, he asserted that in 1846 , just before the US conquest of California, he had received a land grant from the last Mexican Governor of California, for a “ a large tract” along the Sacramento river, north of John Sutter’s property. The US District Court rejected the land grant as “fraudulent”. Sutter himself testified in the case, which the Supreme Court, on Appeal, decided warranted further investigation, but should be “scrutinized with great care.” Lot Amendments Condition: Ink mark on front; dampstaining to front and edges of all pages not affecting text; good or better.
