Herman(us) van Brussel (1763-was a painter and etcher, working in Haarlem and Utrecht. Between and he was director of Academy of Haarlem ("Teekenacademie"). Painted mainly landscapes and was also designer and painter of theatre sets. The location of the drawing is mentioned on verso "Utrecht". This drawing is very comparable to a sheet with "A view of the Popelingsgat, Haarlem" in the collection of the Royal museum of Fine Arts of Belgium (inv. nr 4060/522). Ref.
