VANITY FAIR] Group of bound volumes of Vanity Fair caricatures . [Vanity Fair: London, 1870-1913, lacking the volumes for 1884, 1892, 1906 and 1911]. Forty volumes, three-quarters green morocco, cloth sides. 13 3/4 x 10 inches (35 x 25 cm); with approximately 2000 chromolithographed and color-printed caricatures in all (generally in excess of fifty per volume), each bound with the corresponding text about their subject mounted to the facing page. Some binding wear, but sound externally; within, a clean set. Sold as a collection of plates, not subject to return; Together with a collection of about 100 loose plates with text (largely duplicating those present in the bound volumes), the Vanity Fair Album for 1896 etc. An extraordinary wealth of caricature portraits of eminent British political, social and cultural figures by Ape, Spy and others.
