Various Photographers c. 1860s ETON COLLEGE INTEREST. Album of Photographs of ETON INTEREST with a cover title “Book of Photographs H.C.N. 1861” with original photos of young men during their time at Eton, many at the College including Francis Charles Needham, 3rd Earl of Kilmorey, Viscount Newry (1842-1915, Anglo-Irish Peer and Member of Parliament) and his brothers Henry Colville Needham (born 1844) and Edward Thomas Needham, Hon Oliver George Paulett Montagu (1844-1893, Army Officer) by Camille Silvy James Laidley Mort, Herbert and Edmund Peel Garnett, Boringdon, Robert Harvey Blake-Humfrey (1843-1927), Algernon Rushout, Robert A. Kinglake (1843-1915, Rower and Barrister), Algernon Charles Gordon-Lennox (1847-1921, Army Officer), Yvo Vesey, Frederick Wood, W. H. Hoey, Charles Gordon-Lennox, 7th Duke of Richmond, Earl of March (1845-1928, Politician) and his brother Francis, Cosby Godolphin Trench (1844-1925, Soldier and Magistrate), Ralph Vivian, Lionel R. Stopford, Francis Godolphin Pelham, 5th Earl of Chichester (1844-1905, Cleric and Nobleman), there are three unidentified Albumen carte de visite photos by Hills and Saunders and Howie, then more original photos – R. A. H. Mitchell, Parker, Herbert Garnett, Montagu Knight (1844-1914), Viscount Melgund (Gilbert John Elliot-Muray-Kynynmound, 4th Earl of Minto, 1845-1914, Governor General of Canada and Viceroy and Governor General of India), J. L. Mort. There are then photos of some of the teachers – Revd Charles Old Goodford (1812-1884, Headmaster and Provost of Eton College), Revd Edward Coleridge (1800-1883, Fellow of Eton and Vicar of Mapledurham), Dr Keate (1773-1852, Head Master of Eton College) in silhouette. The next section deals with sport – There are two hand tinted original photos of Rowing teams titled “Eight”, and then two of cricket teams titled “Eleven” with 20 small images of the members of the teams. The following pages have cut out head shots of Charles B. Lawes, Fortescue Horner (1842-1927, Barrister, his family came from Mells and they were descended from the ‘Little Jack Horner’ of the nursery rhyme), James Laidley Mort, George Howard, 9th Earl of Carlisle (1843-1911, Aristocrat, Peer, Politician and Painter), Robert Kinglake. There is a hand tinted image of the ECVC, The Eton College Volunteer Corps, founded, 1st Company, dated June 4th 1860. The Corps was founded in 1860 so this is a very early image, and another of the “ECVC 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th Companies, June 9th 1860”, with 3 cutout images of Sergeant Major Wood, Color Sergeant and Drill Sergeant Ld Parker, and photos of “E. W. Chapman, Captain Commandant, Easter 1860”, “R. A. H. Mitchell Capt Commandant Election 1860-61”, a hand tinted image of Chandos Arkwright (1843-1916) “Capt Commandant Sept to Dec 1861” and John Selwyn (1844-1898, Priest who became the second Bishop of Melanesia and 2nd Master of Selwyn College, Cambridge), “Capt Commandant Jan to Aug 1862”, Lionel Boulton Campbell Muirhead (1845-1925, contemporary of Gerard Manley Hopkins and friend of Robert Bridges whose papers he catalogued), full length cut out photo of him in uniform playing his bugle, titled “Bugler ECVC”. The final pages have more photos of Charles Fairfax, Oliver G. P. Montagu, Melgund, William Meriton Eaton (1843-1902, leading collector of Mezzotint portraits which he left to the British Museum), Melgund, Charles Tottenham, Frederick L. Wood, Charles H. Fairfax. The final portion is more of the clerics, Bishop Chapman, Fellow of Eton College, Revd Thomas Carter, Provost of Eton, Revd John Wilder, Fellow of Eton, Revd Edward Craven Hawtrey DD, Late Provost of Eton, Rev Charles Old Gooford, Provost of Eton, Febry 1861, Revd Willaim Adolphus Carter, Lower Master of Eton College, William Johnson M.
