VERDI, Giuseppe (1813-1901). Printed document signed, concerning the British rights to Alzira , and assigning them to Beale and Chappell for five shillings, with sixteen manuscript quotations from the opera, [Milan], 14 August 1845, 3 pages, large octavo (290 x 210mm.) As the contract states Alzira was first performed at Naples, two days before Verdi assigned the British rights of the work to the publishers. This is an interesting example of trying to describe a work in legal terms, i.e. the quotations chosen to represent the opera. Apparently unpublished.
