Sauk City, Wisconsin: Arkham House, 1947. 8°. Original black buckram, gilt-lettered spine, dust-jacket by George Barrows (worn at extremities). FIRST EDITION OF THE AUTHOR'S FIRST COLLECTION OF STORIES. His twenty-seven tales of the supernatural had appeared in Mademoiselle, Harper's, Weird Tales and other magazines from 1940 onwards. Seven were omitted from the English edition published by Hamish Hamilton in 1948. Currey p. 55. With a large quantity of books. (a lot)
