Woodcut initials. (Dampstained, worming mostly in the margins but also affecting some text especially in gatherings M-N, repairs in the last two leaves, part 2 lacking final blank.) Modern vellum by the Omega Bindery, spine lettered in manuscript. The first Venice edition of a work, first published in Rome in 1514 and expanded with a second part in 1517. Vigo, surgeon to Pope Julius II, was one of the main figures of early Renaissance surgery. His book is a valuable distillation of surgical practice to date, and Vigo was one of the first to write on gunshot wounds and their treatment. Reprinted and translated throughout the 16th century, all early editions are rare: this 1520 edition is the earliest recorded by ABPC, which lists just two copies sold at auction in over 35 years (most recently in 1992).
