VIKING NORWEGIAN SWORD WITH INLAID HILT Early 10th century AD A sword of Oakeshott's Types V/ X featuring a parallel-sided piled two-edged blade with shallow fuller and short tip, broad flat tang; the lower guard very narrow and the tea-cosy pommel with rivets to the underside, both decorated with inlaid strips of bronze and silver in offset parallel lines, the pommel with inlaid bronze and silver wires showing the original trilobe form. 1.3 kg, 93cm (36 1/2"). Extremely fine condition. Provenance Previously in the personal collection of John Moor, York, UK, 1970s; acquired from him in 2005. Published Accompanied by an Art Loss Register certificate.
