Engraved additional title and headpieces by Le Clerc, 65 engraved plates and numerous charts and diagrams all after Perrault. (Some soiling on the title and in some margins, lightly and evenly yellowed throughout, occasional light spotting.) Contemporary calf (rebacked, corners repaired, some wear). Provenance : remnants of 18th-century French armorial bookplate. First edition of Claude Perrault's important translation with commentary. This translation, commissioned by Colbert, was recognized from publication as one of the key, scholarly editions of Vitruvius. Brunet V:1329; Cicognara 727; Fowler 418; RIBA 3512.
