VITRUVIUS POLLIO, Marcus. Les dix livres d'architecture de Vitruve. Edited and translated by Claude Perrault Paris: Jean Baptiste Coignard, 1684.
VITRUVIUS POLLIO, Marcus. Les dix livres d'architecture de Vitruve. Edited and translated by Claude Perrault Paris: Jean Baptiste Coignard, 1684. 2 o (412 x 283 mm). Engraved frontispiece, 68 plates (numbered I-LIV, **, LV-LXIV, [unnumbered on 4Q], ***** ) (8 double-page), head- and tail-pieces, diagrams in the text, initials (some light browning). Contemporary calf, spine in eight compartments with seven raised bands, gilt-lettered morocco label in one, others ruled and decorated in gilt (a bit scuffed at the extremities). Provenance : "v.K." initials and small coat-of-arms on front paste-down (stamped in gilt at foot of spine, bookplate); Reventlow (signature on title). Second Perrault edition. Brunet argues that the second edition with Perrault's scholarly commentary and translation is more complete than the first (1673) and is, therefore, to be preferred. Cicognara comments that among the editions and commentaries of Vitruvius this "tiene a buon dritto uno dei primi luoghi." Brunet V:1349; Cicognara 730; Fowler 418 (note).
