WALT DISNEY STUDIOS THE PLOW BOY, 1929 A very rare complete storyboard for the short featuring Mickey and Minnie Mouse, graphite and color pencil on five full sheets of animation paper. Each box is inscribed with the name of the animator in charge of drawing the corresponding scene: UB , for Ub Iwerks BURT , for Burt Gillett, JACK , for Jack King, LES , for Les Clark, BEN , for Ben Sharpsteen. The inscriptions are believed to have been made by Walt Disney who directed The Plowboy and thus allocated scenes to his animators. The Plowboy , released on May 9, 1929, is the eigth short featuring Mickey Mouse. A very small number (less than twenty) Mickey storyboards were created in the late 1920s, starting with Steamboat Willie (1928), before Disney switched to individual sketches which were pinned on a board. Only two of these storyboards are known to be in private collections, including the one offered here. Image: 12 x 9½ in.
