Walter Magnus Runeberg (b. Borgå 1838, d. Helsinki 1920) “Virginia”. A white marble portrait bust of a woman with piled-up hair. Unsigned. H. 50 cm. A daughter of the sculptur Vilhelm Bissen (1836–1913) was presumably the model used by Runeberg for this bust. Provenance: Presumably acquired directly from the artist by the Danish painter Janus la Cour, who during a stay abroad in Rome became a friend of the artist. Passed down to the artist's nephew colonel L. U. Dornonville de la Cour (1865–1969). Thence by descent until today.
