Types: 6:185 aG (titles, headlines, etc.), 9:156G (headings and headlines in quires A-H), 4:93G (text). One- to six-line initial spaces. One large initial supplied by a German artist: pale blue acanthus on a ground of mauve with yellow tracery or yellow with mauve tracery, within a square green frame with marginal extensions. Rubricated with red Lombard initials, capital strokes, paragraph signs and underlines. (Some worming to lower blank margins, intermittent dampstaining to lower margins, clean tear to ee1, printing flaw to kk5 from creased paper.) Binding : contemporary South-German or Austrian red-stained deerskin over wooden boards (some wear, hinges cracking, small losses to spine); the covers tooled in an overall design using four tools, two Zacken , a small lozenge shape filled with foliage, and a Kopfstempel ; two clasps (straps renewed, catchplates replaced); without the ten original center-piece and cornerpiece bosses (the bosses on the back cover replaced with later substitutes); new cloth folding case. Provenance : Seitenstetten Abbey: 17th-century inscription on 1/1r. FIRST EDITION. This and the Missale Pataviense of the same year are the most ambitious productions of this prolific press, the second to be established at Passau, where Johann Petri began working in 1484. After 1493 Petri stopped printing but continued to be active as a publisher and bookseller. Paulus Wann was a canon of the cathedral of Passau.
