Docketed on verso for fourth quarter of 1861. Shelby, Issac Jr. (ca1817-1873 ). Confederate officer and Chief Commissary Subsistence; grandson of Revolutionary War veteran and first Governor of Kentucky Isaac Shelby. Letter from Confederate Captain John M. Orr to Captain Shelby at Abingdon. Docketed on verso multiple times including by Shelby "Isaac Shelby Jr. / Capt & ChfCs." 2pp, 4.75 x 7.75 in. May 1, 1864. Letter indicates Capt. Orr was unable to ride to see Shelby due to illness, and that Gen. Wheaton told the Sergeant of the Guard at Glade Springs that he wanted to get some of the faithful men back to his brigade. Signed also by Capt. Orr, "Jno. M. Orr." Accompanied by the following: Harper's Weekly Newspaper pages, Oct 25, 1862 depicting Brig. Gen.
