Autograph document signed ("G: Washington") as Member of the House of Burgesses, Delegate to the Continental Congress and justice of Fairfax, [Alexandria, Virginia], 14 January 1774. 1 page, folio, 324 x 200mm. (12 1/2 x 8 in.), minute repairs at folds, otherwise in good condition. BOLDLY SIGNED. On verso, an autograph document signed of George William Fairfax ("G.W. Fairfax"), n.p., 18 June 1773, appointing Craven Peyton "my collector and receiver" for "all of my tenants in Virginia..." [ With :] FAIRFAX, GEORGE WILLIAM Document signed ("G:W. Fairfax"), n.p., 20 December 1779, 1 page, folio, fold repairs from verso, original red wax seal , appointing George Nicholas of Williamsburg "my true and lawful attorney..." -- NICHOLAS, GEORGE. Autograph letter signed ("G. Nicholas") to Craven Peyton, n.p., 18 August 1780, 1 page, 4to , confirming Peyton as receiver and agent for Fairfax. WASHINGTON'S MANAGEMENT OF GEORGE FAIRFAX'S PROPERTIES A group of documents linking several eminent Virginians, all concerning the complex and, for Washington, at times onerous management of the extensive lands and properties of his neighbor, George William Fairfax (1725-1787). Fairfax went to England on business in 1773 and remained there until his death. Here, Washington, acting under Fairfax's power of attorney, appoints Craven Peyton attorney for Fairfax's real estate: "By Virtue of the Power & authority to me given from the Honble George William Fairfax Esq. by his Letter of Attorney bearing date [8 July 1773]...in and by which, all other, and former powers by him given (in this Colony) are revoked, and rendered void; I do hereby constitute & appoint the written named Craven Peyton Genl attorney for all and singular the purposes within mentioned; As also for the further purpose of acknowleding Leases for Land Let & the terms agreed on by the said George William Fairfax in the Counties of Culpeper & Fauquier; As also for conveying sundry small pieces, or parcels of Land, sold by the said Geo.
