'Molecular structure of nucleic acids', Nature , vol. 171, no. 4356, Supplement: Recent Scientific and Technical Books, pp. 737-741, April 25, 1953, London: Fisher, Knight & Co. Ltd., for Macmillan & Co., Limited, 1953. WATSON and CRICK. 'Genetical implications of the structure of deoxyribonucleic acid,' Nature , vol. 171, no. 4361, Supplement: Recent Scientific and Technical Books, pp. 964-967, May 30, 1953. London: Fisher, Knight & Co., Ltd., for Macmillan & Co., Limited, 1953. 2 issues, 8 (253 x 177mm). Original printed wrappers. FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE DISCOVERY OF DNA - THE FOUNDATION BLOCKS OF ALL LIFE - THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT WORK IN THE HISTORY OF THE LIFE SCIENCES. Crick and Watson published four papers on the subject in 1953. For their first paper and its revolutionary impact on the life sciences, see the previous lot. It is joined here by their second paper, written within only a few weeks of the first, in which the authors spell out in greater detail the implications of their discovery. Vagaries and omissions in the first paper outlining their method of deduction are here replaced by an explicit and concise description of the biologically important features of the proposed structure. Despite some remaining uncertainties about the unproved nature of that structure, Crick and Watson felt confident enough to postulate that their discovery would 'help to solve one of the fundamental biological problems -- the molecular basis of the template needed for genetic reproduction.' RARE IN MINT CONDITION AND AS THE COMPLETE NUMBER OF NATURE .
