The first set contains galleys 1-30 on 15 sheets; the second galleys 5-102 on 49 sheets; the third galleys 75-102 on 14 sheets. Printed in 2 columns on rectos only. Each sheet approx. 65x29 cm. (25½x11¾"). Unbound sets of galley proofs of one of Zane Grey's most popular works, published the year of his death, and made into the classic movie directed by Fritz Lang and starring Robert Young Randolph Scott and Dean Jagger. Accompanied by a typed letter signed by Romer Grey to his father Zane Grey, discussing various movie contracts and sales, including Western Union, "I have waited until the last minute again hoping to be able to tell you that MGM has closed on Western Union..." The letter is dated April 26, 1939, some six months before Zane Grey's death. The first of the sets of galleys contains various ms. corrections and editorial markings. With letter of provenance stating the proofs were sold at Lang's auction in 2001, and came through the Loren Grey estate, consigned by a direct descendant of Zane Grey. Lot Amendments Condition: Proof's darkened and brittle, some chipping, overall very good. Item number: 220039
