Reproduced from the Fothergill Album in the British Museum (Natural History) Author: Ewan, Joseph, editor Place: Philadelphia Publisher: The American Philosophical Society Date: 1968 Description: x, [2], 180 pp. Edited with an Introduction and Commentary by Joseph Ewan Illustrated with 59 plates, 19 of which are in color. (Folio) 15½x11¼, green cloth, lettered in gilt, jacket. First Edition. William Bartram of Philadelphia (1739-1823), was the first American-born artist-naturalist. From 1766 to 1776 he was commissioned by Dr. John Fothergill of London to tour the southern colonies, collecting seeds and plants for the Doctor's botanical garden. Lot Amendments Condition: Jacket price clipped and with some wear to extremities; else near fine in a very good jacket. Item number: 190416
