FootnotesProvenance Noah Goldowsky Gallery, New York Acquired by the present owner circa 1985 A pioneering Canadian artist primarily associated with color field painting, William Perehudoff's atmospheric canvases reflect the great expanses of the Saskatchewan prairies where he was born. The artist abandoned his realist style in favor of abstraction beginning in the 1950s, and after meeting Clement Greenberg in 1962 his output fell under the umbrella of post-painterly abstraction championed by the critic. Perehudoff's lifelong association with the Emma Lake Artist's Workshop led to friendships with many artists including Kenneth Noland and Jules Olitski The influence of both artists can be seen in La Loche No 7, dating to 1973. Perehudoff's work can be found in numerous collections including the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa and the Montreal Museum of Fine Art.
