PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed by the author 'Lady Ottoline Morrell With compliments of Robert McAlmon by virtue of our friendship William Carlos Williams'. The friendship between McAlmon and Williams was to lead in 1920 to the publication of their magazine Contact and thence to the establishment of McAlmon's press of that name. WILLIAMS, William Carlos. Spring and All. Paris: Contact, 1923. 8°. Original blue-grey paper wrappers (discoloured and perished at spine), unopened. Printed in Dijon by Maurice Darantiere. With flyer for Contact Publishing. ONE OF 300 COPIES. Wallace A7a. Robert McAlmon later wrote: 'Nobody ever saw it -- it had no circulation at all -- but I had a bit of fun with it ... Chapter headings are printed upside down on purpose, the chapters are numbered all out of order, sometimes with Roman numerals, sometimes with Arabic, anything that came in handy' ( I Wanted , pp.36-37).
