Title printed in red and black, 80 engraved plates, 2 tables. (A few leaves with short tears or small pieces torn away, occasional light scattered spotting and browning.) Contemporary calf (rebacked and repaired, rubbed). FIRST ENGLISH EDITION and "a translation of Willughby's "Ornithologiae", 1676, with various corrections and emendations ... the cornerstone of modern systematic ornithology, being the first book on the classification of birds without respect to geographical boundaries" (Zimmer pp.677-8); Mullens and Swann pp.650-2; Nissen IVB 991.
