Atlas of 70 plates only (of 76, lacks nos. 5, 6, 7, 29, 48 and 49, and 3 vols. 8vo of text), 4to, 363 x 290mm. (14 5/16 x 11 3/8in.), on guards, old brown half morocco, worn, covers detached, lacks backstrip, some staining. First revised edition. 70 hand-colored engraved plates by A. Lawson, J.G. Warnicke, G. Murray and B. Tanner after Wilson's drawings. Ayer/Zimmer, p. 681; Fine Bird Books , p. 114; McGill/Wood, p. 630; Nissen IVB 992. The coloring of the plates is vastly superior to that of the first edition. A combination of better pigments and paper stock is the reason for this. Provenance : Smithsonian Institution Libraries.
