WILSON, W.W.]. Views in the Strait of Magellan , &c. [London:] Hydrographic Office, 1845. Oblong 4° (325 x 423mm). 42 lithographic coastal or island profiles on 28 leaves, 4 double-page, preceded by cover title and 6 leaves of letterpress: 'Remarks on the Coast of Tierra del Fuego.' (Some occasional spotting). Contemporary calf-backed marbled boards, later gilt spine lettering. Provenance : Hydrographical Office (stamp). FIRST EDITION FROM THE VOYAGE OF H.M.S. 'ADVENTURE' AND 'BEAGLE' of these illustrated sailing directions for navigating the Strait West to East, compiled from drawings by the author, some dated 1830. Wilson served as Midshipman on the 'Adventure' 1825-28 and as Mate from 1828-30. He prepared this album for Vol. I of the 'Narrative of the Surveying Voyages of H.M. Ships Adventure and Beagle between 1826 and 1836', the expedition commanded by Capt. P.P. King to 1830.
