Powys, 4th Baron Lilford (1833-1896) -- Frederick Du Cane Godman (lot 1 in his sale, Christie's, London, 15 December 1995). The female falcon is almost lifesize; a young bird perches in the distance. Wolf later made several drawings of birds of prey for Lord Lilford, which Thorburn adapted for the first illustrations in Lilford's Coloured Figures of the Birds of the British Islands (1885-98).
