In her novel Orlando the character of the Russian princess Sasha is based on Violet Trefusis ("She talked so enchantingly, so wittily, so wisely"); this portrayal by Virginia Woolf was gleaned from information given by Vita in her letters in reply to Virginia's questions. In one of Virginia's letters to Vita she refers to Violet, 'I still remember her, like a fox cub, all scent and seduction''.
