WORLD WAR II -- NORMANDY AND THE BULGE]. EISENHOWER, Dwight. T.L.S. ("Ike") as Supreme Commander, TO LT. GEN. OMAR BRADLEY, Headquarters A.E.F., 27 June 1944. 1p., 4to . "I FEEL VERY SURE THAT A STRONG ATTACK...WILL GO WITH A BANG ONCE IT GETS STARTED" A dramatic letter from the Normandy campaign--and five others to Bradley from top Allied commanders such as Montgomery and Alexander. Ike writes Bradley just three weeks after the D-Day landings as the Allies slogged their way through hedgerow country and stiff German resistance: "...Your letter states that you hope to attack on Friday--Hughes said that you have had to put it back until Saturday. I assume that by using the 7th Corps you are counting on having at least three divisions in Army reserves when the attack starts so as to give you some depth. I feel very sure that a strong attack on your side will go with a bang once it gets started. Best of luck to all of you." [ With :] MONTGOMERY, Bernard L. A.L.S. ("B. L. Montgomery"), as Commander 21st Army Group, to Gen. Omar Bradley, Headquarters, 4 December 1944. 1p., small 4to, framed . LESS THAN TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE GERMAN SURPRISE ATTACK IN THE ARDENNES, Monty looks forward to a meeting with Bradley and Ike. "I am so very sorry you have been laid up with a cold. Thank you for sending me your news; I am delighted to have it. I am much looking forward to a meeting with you and Ike on Thursday: at MAASTRICHT I undersdtand." -- MARSHALL, George C. T.L.S. ("G. C. Marshall"), as Chief of Staff, to Gen. Omar Bradley, Washington, 25 December 1944. 1p., 4to, framed . "WE ARE WATCHING THE PROGRESS OF THE MEASURES TAKEN TO THWART THE GERMAN OFFENSIVE ON YOUR FRONT". Marshall thanks Bradley for the gift of a captured German pistol, then turns to the unfolding drama of the BATLE OF THE BULGE: "we are watching the progress of the measures taken to thwart the German offensive effort on your front. I hope that the worst will be over when you receive this. Needless to say you have my complete confidence, the more so in these difficult days. The fact of your presence and leadership in this crisis is a great reassurance to me." -- ALEXANDER, Harold R. T.L.S. ("H. R. Alexander") to Gen. Omar Bradley, Headquarters, Allied Armies in Italy, 25 June 1944. p., 8vo, framed . A FINE NOTE OF CONGRATULATIONS TO BRADLEY: "...I look upon your cutting off the Cherbourg Peninsula as a first-class victory. May I offer you my very heartiest congratulations on the able way you have handled the battle." -- ARNOLD, H.H. T.L.S. ("H. H. Arnold") to Gen. Omar Bradley, n.d. 1p., 4to, framed . "Please accept my sincere appreciation of our field luncheon in 'Western Europe'...I wish also to extend my hearty congratulations upon you great and successful accomplishments..." --ENLISTED MEN, 12th ARMY GROUP. Printed telegram, unsigned, 12 February 1945. 1p., oblong, framed . Birthday wishes from the Enlisted Men of 12th Army: "Some of the happiest times of our lives will be spent telling others in later years about our tight, happy little family of Eagle TAC--and about our grand 'Old Man' who was at the head of it..."
