WORSLEY, Richard (1751-1805). Museum Worsleyanum or a Collection of Antique Basso Relievos, Bustos, Statues and Gems with Views of Places in the Levant Taken on the Spot in the Years MDCCLXXXV, VI and VII . London: [Shakespeare Press, by William Bulmer & Co.], 1794 [-1803]. 2 volumes in one, 2° (533 x 360mm), engraved title-vignettes, 6 vignettes in the text and 148 plates including views and the Death of General Wolfe on 105 sheets, one double-page and folding, text in English and Italian, the leaf of the 'Cambridge letter' PRINTED ON VELLUM bound in after title of volume I, engraved portrait of the author by A. Cardon mounted as frontispiece on a fly-leaf (one leaf in volume II, pp. 13-14, with clean repaired tear in lower margin, folding engraved plate trimmed at right-hand margin not affecting image, engraved title of volume I creased and lightly dust-soiled, occasional marginal thumbing and light spotting). Contemporary russia gilt, gilt edges (rebacked with most of original spine preserved, a trifle rubbed). Provenance : Sir William Oglander (PRESENTATION INSCRIPTION from the author). FIRST EDITION of Sir Richard Worsley's catalogue of his antiquities which he published at the extraordinary cost of £2,887.4s., excluding binding costs. The exhibits comprised a remarkable collection of statues, reliefs and gems which he had assembled on his tour to Greece, Troy, Egypt, the Crimea and Italy between 1785 and 1787. Brunet V, 1478-79.
