Of upright rectangular form, resting on a splayed oval footrim, its rounded shoulders rising to a cylindrical neck beneath a subtly recessed lip; painted in black ink and watercolors on one side with an early spring scene, depicting a figure rowing his boat towards a bank with houses settled amongst bushes behind lush trees, all against rolling hills in the far distance; dated jisi dongyue (winter of 1929), inscribed 'for the pure enjoyment of Ziqing, the honorable elder brother', signed Ye Zhongsan followed by a red seal mark painted in red; the reverse depicting a lakeside setting, with a horse standing under a willow tree.
