This work was conceived in 1957 by Yves Klein and cast in 1990 by Jean-Paul-Ledeur, Paris.This work is from an edition of eight plus two editions numbered EA and two editions numbered HC.

It was at this location where Klein was commisioned by the architectWerner Ruhnau to make large original works, which would ultimately fill the grand hall’s walls. It was because of the challenging scale and surface area that Klein was asked to create for, which led to the creation of La Vague. Klein would later create four massisve reliefs for the interior’s walls, two blue monochromes measuring 7 x 20 meters and two sponge reliefs measuring 5 by 10 meters. La Vague began with Klein creating three plaster versions of the model.The present work (IKB 160 C), of the three, was later cast in an edition. Klein used La Vague as an opportunity to continue to experiment with 3-dimensionality on the wall, giving the piece depth and movement, seperating it from a traditionally flat hanging object.
