The Ford Model A was produced between 1927 and 1931. It was also colloquially called the A-Model Ford or A-bone among rodders and customizers and was a huge success for the Ford Motor Company, after its predecessor, the Model T. First produced on October 20, 1927, but not sold until December 2, it replaced the venerable Model T, which had been produced for 18 years. This new Model A (a previous model had used the name in 1903-1904) was designated as a 1928 model and was available in four standard colours. By 4th February, 1929, one million Model A's had been sold and by 24th July, two million. The range of body styles ran from the Tudor at US$500 (in grey, green or black) to the Town Car with a dual cowl at US$1,200. By March 1930, Model A sales hit three million and there were nine body styles available. When production ended in March, 1932, there were 4,849,340 Model A's built. It was the first Ford to use the standard set of driver controls with conventional clutch and brake pedals, throttle and gearshift. The Model A's fuel tank was located in the cowl, between the engine compartment's fire wall and the dash panel. It had a visual fuel gauge, and the fuel flowed to the carburettor by gravity. A rear view mirror was optional. This circa 1929 Ford Model A Sports Coupé with dickey seat was brought into the States of Guernsey in 1990 and registered to a Mrs. Elizabeth Woods from St Peters Port and, whilst there, received a complete 'body off' restoration. Mrs Woods then imported the car into England in 2001 and sold it to Mr. John Calvert of Goring-on-Thames. In his custody the car was kept fully maintained and he also took it to various shows around the Thames Valley region. The last owner, a Mr. Anthony Ford, purchased the Model A in September 2011 and set about making sure that everything was running and working perfectly. During February and March 2012, he purchased a number of spare parts including a new spare wheel cover from the Ford specialists, Belcher Engineering Ltd in Norfolk, but, sadly passed away shortly afterwards. Finished in yellow and black with a fixed canvas roof and brown interior the Model A Ford Sports Coupé is supplied with a V5C registration document, the Guernsey registration document, a photographic record of the restoration, old MoT test certificates, invoices and Model A club magazines and rally programmes. This very pretty example starts and runs very well and is ready to be used and enjoyed.
