The Cadillac Motor Car Division of General Motors ended tank production in late August 1945. Less than two months later, on October 17, the first post-war Cadillac car went into production. America was car hungry and Cadillac, anticipating this, decided to introduce a new model that would be reminiscent of its pre-war cars, yet still recognizable enough to be the talk of the town. The 1946 models were similar to the 1942 Cadillacs, featuring bright chrome grilles, big pontoon fenders and flowing fastback rooflines on many models. All of the 1946 Cadillacs were powered by the Battle-Proved or Victory 346 ci. V8 engine, which had benefited from numerous improvements developed and incorporated during the war. The Cadillac V8, that had proven to be a rugged and extremely dependable tank powerplant throughout the war, was in production continuously from 1935. For 1946, Cadillac offered 11 models in four series. The pre-war Series 63 and 67 cars were gone, as was the DeLuxe trim on the Series 61 and 62 models, and the only car to be offered with DeLuxe trim was the convertible. Mr. Ray Brown's 1946 Cadillac Fleetwood is reported to be in highly original condition. The motor and engine bay are also reported to be in original condition and show age. The Cadillac is fitted with a side spotlamp and a CB radio and compass. As one of the first post-war American cars built in Detroit, these Cadillacs are prized by collectors for their stylish pre-war design and engineering. WITHOUT RESERVE
