London Gazette 16 July 1918: ‘Date of Action - 17.4.1918. Gallantry under very heavy shell fire.’ Robert John Read was a native of Conway, Wales, and was born in 1895. He enlisted in the 6th Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers in March 1915, and served with the Army Cyclist Corps in the French theatre of war from 3 December 1915. Read was discharged to the Army Reserve in February 19198.
