A 1918 M.M. group of four awarded to Private R. J. Read, Army Cyclist Corps Military Medal, G.V.R. (8004 Pte. R. J. read. XI. C.C. Bn: A.C.C.); 1914-15 Star (8004 Pte. R. J. Read, A. Cyclist Corps.); British War and Victory Medals (8004 Pte. R. J. Read. A. Cyc. Corps.) mounted for display, generally very fine (4) £340-£380 Footnote M.M. London Gazette 16 July 1918: ‘Date of Action - 17.4.1918. Gallantry under very heavy shell fire.’ Robert John Read was a native of Conway, Wales, and was born in 1895. He enlisted in the 6th Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers in March 1915, and served with the Army Cyclist Corps in the French theatre of war from 3 December 1915. Read was discharged to the Army Reserve in February 19198. Sold with the following related original documentation: Corps Commander’s named certificate for the M.M.; Transfer to the Reserve Certificate and Discharge Certificate.
