A carved and pierced jade Appliqué, Yuan/Ming (13th/14th century), of oval, domed form with two egrets wading through a thicket of lotus stems, flowers and seedpods and waterweed, the feathers and water finely engraved in the pale grey-green stone, with pale inclusions, one wing trailing edge and tip reduced, 8.8cm diameter From a ruyi sceptre. The underside has an interesting and unusual display of miscalculation by the carver who, having sawn an edge-cut encircling nearly half the rim,, decided he had cut too thin and started again. (Visible only from beneath and not threatening integrity). 元/明 青灰玉镂雕一路连科纹牌
