A dark green japanned eight-day longcase clock, William Gill Maidstone, 18th century, the five finned pillar rack and bell striking movement with 12 inch brass break-arch dial with subsidiary seconds dial and calendar aperture to the basket of fruit and Ho-Ho bird inhabited scroll engraved matted centre within applied silvered Roman numeral chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour markers and Arabic five minutes to outer track, the angles applied with mask and scroll cast spandrels within herringbone engraved outer border beneath arch centred with a silvered boss inscribed W'm Gill, Maidston within further herringbone borders and flanked by dolphin cast mounts, in a pagoda pedimented case with cavetto mounted break-arch cornice above three-quarter columns to hood, the trunk with break-arch door decorated in raised gilt with figures in an oriental coastal garden with square-rigged sailing vessels to foreground, on plinth base with conforming landscape decoration to front and moulded double skirt, 240cm (94.5ins) high.
