CIRCA 1833-38
A FINE FRENCH CASED PAIR OF PERCUSSION RIFLED TARGET PISTOLS BY ROGUET À ST. ETIENNE circa 1833-38 With etched twist octagonal sighted barrels each cut with microgroove- rifled bore, case-hardened breeches with the barrel forger's signature 'Etienne Combet' stamped beneath, engraved case-hardened breech tangs each incorporating the back-sight, signed engraved case-hardened back-action locks, the hammer noses chiselled in the form of monster's heads, highly figured burr brown oak half-stocks with carved acanthus leaf terminals, chequered butts, oval pommels carved with encircling bands of acanthus leaves, engraved case-hardened steel mounts, and retaining most of their original finish, St.Etienne proof: in original contour-fitted case lined in green baize, the lid and sides veneered in highly figured pale burr brown oak, the lid inlaid with satinwood banding, and retaining its original full complement of accessories, including case-hardened bullet mould (the mallet repaired). 15¼ i n (38.8cm)
