A fine Spanish gold and silver-damascened forged-iron octagonal desktop casket Attributed to Plácido Zuloaga Eibar, Third quarter 19th century The hinged lid centred by a relief-chiselled foliate medallion, the raised areas darkened, the background covered with gold foil over a lightly stippled ground profusely inlaid with silver and gold stylised flowers, the rounded lip of the lid decorated with a series of more than one hundred small pointed silver arches, each containing a five-pointed gold leaf, the side panels each heavily damascened in gold and silver floral designs applied with alternating round and oval medallions, the interior finished in black with similar decoration, fitted with two drawers, on fluted columns and broad disk-shaped pad feet 5 3/8 in. (13.7cm.) high; 7¾ in. (19.6 cm.) diameter
