A GERMAN SILVER-MOUNTED PERCUSSION TARGET RIFLE, converted from flintlock, with heavy octagonal sighted barrel rifled with seven grooves, reblued and inlaid with silver scrollwork at the muzzle and breech, the latter signed in silver 'Joh. Gerstmaÿer in Memingen', case-hardened flat lock (defective, hammer cracked) held on by two side-nails each with pierced heart-shaped head, walnut full stock of wheel-lock form sparsley carved with panels of foliate scrollwork against a granular ground, and inlaid with shaped and pierced silver panels and silver wire scrollwork, and on the cheek-piece with a dark and white horn star, the underside of the fore-end fitted with a reblued engraved steel plate, patch-box cover inlaid en suite with the stock, pierced and indented silver trigger-guard, set trigger (incomplete), horn fore-end cap, and horn-tipped ramrod, late 18th Century 38¾in. barrel
